Pecha Kucha: Re-Construction
For the first time ever, Supernova will include a set of Pecha Kucha lightning talks. If we’re going to focus on restructuring, why not restructure the typical conference presentation!
Prior to lunch on July 30, a hand-picked set of dynamic speakers will present in Pecha Kucha format. In the spirit of “Perestroika”, all the talks relate to rebuilding pieces of ourselves in a digital world and redesigning, repackaging and redefining networks to sustain our institutions, our communities, our governments, and our values.
Our Pecha Kucha at Supernova speakers include:
- Alissa Black (Code for America) – Rebuilding Cities with the Brightest Minds of the Web 2.0 Generation.
- Lisa Galarneau (Cultural Anthropologist) – The Power of Glasnost
- Heather Gold and Kevin Marks (TummelVision) – What is Tummeling?
- Idit Harel Caperton (World Wide Workshop) – So, You Think You Can Game? Actionable Ideas for Turning Learning into Perestroika
- Scott Heiferman (Meetup) – Community Networks and the Real-World App Store
Pecha Kucha is a rapid-fire blend of presentation and performance, where speakers have to present their ideas, passions, and positions in exactly 400 seconds, parsed among 20 Powerpoint slides. (The phrase is slang for “chit chat” in Japanese.) Started by a small architecture firm in Tokyo in 2003, Pecha Kucha nights are now held regularly in over 300 cities around the world. Think of it as presentation Haiku. Or adult show-and-tell. The Pecha Kucha 20×20 format cuts talks down to their meaty essence; there’s no room for filler.
