Idit Harel Caperton

Dr. Idit Harel Caperton was born in Israel where she spent her early life and schooling in the young startup nation. She moved to the USA to pursue graduate studies at Harvard and MIT, and has worked at the MIT Media Lab and Internet industry for over twenty years. She is a recognized visionary and executive in education technology, and has been a continued inspiration to women and youth in both education and tech industries. An early pioneer in the fields of new media and education, Idit has made her life’s work to enact positive change in youth globally through cutting-edge media technology: she founded MaMaMedia (1995), World Wide Workshop (2004) and Globaloria (2006) to leverage her unique blend of award-winning scientific research, new-media innovation, social entrepreneurship and leadership worldwide. Idit is the founder and president of the World Wide Workshop a non-profit pioneering scalable and sustainable education platforms that leverage the newest Web2.0 tools to create models for the transformative global teaching and learning in the 21st century. Their flagship platform, Globaloria, is a first-of-its-kind social learning network designed to transform schools by engaging today’s learners in complex systems, creativity, team work, game programming and social change. Idit’s diverse contributions to the field of educational technology -- as an inventor, researcher, published author, speaker, advisor, board member, organizational builder and leader -- fuses social justice and entrepreneurial innovation in a unique way. Living at this multidisciplinary nexus has made it possible for Idit to witness the most progressive theories and cutting-edge R&D she conceived at the MIT Media Lab and the early Internet era a few decades ago, flourish in the real-world settings of the 21st century.
